Transport

Specialised transport for pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities

Many of our children are transported to and from school via minibus and this must be applied for. Transport is not organised or managed by the school directly, but by Travel Assist. For more information, please contact Travel Assist – 0121 303 4955. Travel Assist opening hours are Monday to Friday – 7:15 am until 5:30pm.

The minibuses and taxis park on our school playground and children are supported by a driver and guide. School staff ensure that children get safely from and to their transport at the start and end of the school day. It is the responsibility of parents to arrange for a responsible adult to escort their child to and from the vehicle.

Please read the Travel Assistance Policy by clicking the link below: Please note the Council’s policy to provide free travel assistance to the categories of eligible children in the Education Act 1996 but not otherwise unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Please complete this form carefully, ensuring all information provided is accurate and that you include everything you want to say in support of your application.

There are a range of solutions available to pupils and young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and those pupils attending specialist centres.

Children and Young People’s Travel Service (CYPTS) may be able to offer your child a free bus pass or special vehicle, for example: taxi, minibus or wheelchair accessible vehicle to get them to school.

They may also be able to offer help to students with special needs who attend specialist schools / colleges outside of the Birmingham area as long as:

  • They are attending the nearest school/college that meets their needs
  • The placement is agreed as the most appropriate placement as part of their special educational needs assessment and review.
When you apply they will take into consideration:
  • Whether your child lives within walking distance and is able to walk, use public transport or needs to use a special vehicle.
  • Whether they’re attending the nearest available school that meets their needs – If you choose to send them to a school further away you will need to pay the cost of transport.

CYPTS regularly review the help that they offer, as pupils’ needs often change as they become older. Please click this link to apply for travel assistance.
