Sustainability

At Dame Ellen Pinsent School we are committed to raising awareness of the current climate crisis and making changes within our practices in order to ensure we are contributing towards change. Our Science and PSHE curriculum address issues that affect our climate and explore ways in which we can become more sustainable and eco-friendly.
We are so fortunate to have extensive green spaces and our plan is to continue to improve and develop these areas in order to encourage a wider range of native animals and insects, creating bio-diversity. We encourage the children to feed our wild birds and our Rights Respecting Rangers, as well as classes, complete litter picks to ensure the area is safe and tidy. We have a gardening area in school with a greenhouse and raised beds and we plan to use this to more effectively grow and use our own produce.
Our school kitchen disposes of food waste separately and this gets collected and is used in composting and we have separate bins for recycling. The action plan below details our next steps towards being a climate friendly and sustainable school, contributing towards Net Zero, and will be reviewed over the course of the next academic year 2025/26.
