Woodlands Pathway

I am Miss Prottey, and I am the Woodlands Pathway Lead, and also History and Geography Lead at Dame Ellen.
My teaching journey began in 2014 where I taught at a mainstream school for 8 years. I taught Years 2, 4 and 6 where I had responsibility for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and both KS1 and KS2 SATs. During that time, I also studied for a master’s in education where I completed my research in the area of “mathematical problem solving in Key Stage 1” so Maths is a real passion of mine.
After that, I taught Maths to children at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, moving from ward to ward throughout the day teaching children Maths when they were poorly in hospital. This job was fascinating, and I loved the opportunity to work 1:1 with children during their recovery in hospital.
In 2023, I moved to Dame Ellen where I began my role as Woodlands Pathway Lead. I have responsibility for the 5 classes currently in Woodlands (Wildcats, Bumblebees, Grasshoppers, Badgers and Robins) making sure the children receive high quality teaching and learning during their time with us.
The Woodlands Pathway at Dame Ellen is our most formal pathway. Our intent is for children to become confident, engaged, happy and resourceful lifelong learners through receiving high quality teaching and learning across the range of National Curriculum subjects. The majority of children in the Woodlands Pathway are currently working academically at EYFS and Key Stage 1 level, but some children are challenged to access age-appropriate examinations such as the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check or the Year 6 SATs. We also aim to develop the children’s self-help and independence skills through a variety of extra-curricular opportunities such as educational visits, class assemblies, sports events, curriculum WOW events, and a 2 night residential to Blackwell Adventure.
